Royal Purple Staff Goodbye: Carley Rymkus

Rymkus
Managing Editor

I was terrified when I walked into the Royal Purple’s new writer’s meeting my sophomore year. I had no idea what I was getting into or if I could even write an article worthy of being printed. Now, three years later, I say goodbye to a group that has become my family.

I have been dreading writing this letter since my senior year started, because I have no idea how to express the love and gratitude toward all of the people who have made my college experience so memorable, especially in so few words. But here’s for trying.

Mom and Bob: I don’t know how I would get through life without your love and support. Thank you for being there for me every step of the way. You are the best, most fabulous parents a girl could ask for, and I couldn’t imagine my life without you two. I love you both so much.

Amy: If I didn’t have you to talk to all day, every day, I might go crazy. Thank you for supporting my dreams, being my best friend and acting just as cynical as I do. I love you, niece hater.

Erin, Emily and Melanie: I couldn’t ask for better sisters. I cherish our relationships and you three so much. Thank you for being there when I need it and always giving me a reason to laugh. I love you gals.

Taylor: Breaking my thumb and meeting you was one of the best things that ever happened to me. Thank you for making me so happy these past two and a half years, for always supporting me and for making me laugh so much. I love you.

Andie: I have enjoyed getting to know you more than I can say. You have been a great teacher and friend over the past three years, and it was so fun working with you. Thank you for dealing with all of my questions and being such a great leader. You are so talented, and I know you are going places.

Kevin: I don’t know how I would have gotten through all of these journalism classes without you. Eight classes made for minimal paying attention, a lot of laughs, and even more inside jokes. You are a great friend, and I will miss our Wednesday night hang out sessions.

Zach: We started at the RP together, and it only makes sense that we leave together. Thank you for making my high school and college years more fun and for being a good pal.

Abbie: Congrats on becoming managing editor next year. I know you will be fantastic. You are so talented, and I’m sure one day I’ll be reading your famous book reviews.

Sam: I know I tease you a lot, but you were a fun person to have in the office. (After I got over the “ham cheese and omelet” and “I hate you” comments, of course).

Mike: You crack me up. I’m bummed I didn’t know about your sassy comments until later in the semester, but thanks for all of the funny chats.

Ben: You dropped every class you ever had with me, so what more is there to say? I enjoyed talking TV with you every week. PS: I still wish you would have called A+R “Ben-tertainment.”

Carrie: How you juggle being a student and a new mom is beyond me, but you rock. Thanks for improving our business section.

Chris: I have nothing but respect for such a dedicated Packers fan. You’re one cool guy, and it’s been great getting to know you.

Jon: You make funnier faces than I do, and you are one of the most entertaining people to be around. Thank you for making copy editing so fun.

Josh: Thank you for taking the reins of opinion and helping us out. It was fun to have someone reading “Game of Thrones” in the office.

Dan: I could tell you that you are an awesome photographer, because you are, but our real friendship resides in our love for cats. And I still can’t get over how cool your hair is.

Sydney: You are one of the coolest, sweetest people I know. You brought a fun, bubbly energy into the office. You are such a talented graphic artist and were a joy to work with.

Lynn and Heena: You ladies made not-so-fun meetings more enjoyable, and I’m glad I got to know you both better.

Saying goodbye is never easy, and I still can’t believe I won’t be returning to UW-Whitewater next semester. My four years here have been the best of my life, and I am thankful to everyone who has made it so enjoyable and memorable.

To all my RP friends, past and present: I’m not sure where else I will get to be in an environment where “that’s what she said” jokes are still appreciated. Thank you for all of the hilarious quotes, inappropriate jokes and unforgettable memories over the past three years.

I wish nothing but the best for everyone affiliated with the Royal Purple, and I am happy to have been a part of this paper. It has truly changed my life. Thank you to you all for filling every stressful and chaotic Monday night with laughs. I will miss you all more than I can say. Love always.
