Students have an opportunity to switch up their Saturday night with pre-Halloween fun at the Haunted Mansion.

Career and Leadership Development, in collaboration with University Housing, brings the spooks to students before the trick or treating and ghosts come out.

The Second Salem Paranormal Investigation Team will be the ones providing the scares for students and guests all while in costume.

Campus programmer at Career and Leadership Development Jessica Faust provided her input on the perks of the event.

“I think haunted mansions are kind of just a fun thing to do during the Halloween time,” Faust said.

The Haunted Mansion’s first hour, 8 to 9 p.m., is PG for younger audiences.

“Our scarers are just going to kind of take it back so if you want to bring any friends or family that maybe get a little more scared, or if you want to bring any family members that are younger that’d be the time to come and get not as scared as the rest of the time,” Faust said.

Faust said Career and Leadership Development and University Housing decided to host a Halloween event to take advantage of the season of thrills.

The second hour of the Haunted Mansion event will be all about the spooks while trekking through the mansion itself.

Career and Leadership Development associate student services of CDL Joshua Tepps said Halloween is a tradition everybody should be able to enjoy, and this event will provide easy access to the season’s festivities.

“The tradition is kind of everybody loves it, a lot of people love the opportunity to go somewhere, go to a haunted house, a haunted mansion, a scary corn maze kind of thing, and I think they will love the fact that this is one: free,  and two: that they aren’t going to have to go far,” Tepps said.

Theta Alpha Phi, a theater group on campus, will be painting faces on the day before the event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 16 on the University Center North Mall.

Students are asked to bring their student IDs. The cards will be swiped at the event to compile data on how well the event did in terms of participation of college students. Still, all people are welcome to attend the free event.

Tepps said students have an opportunity to get out of the halls and apartments and do something fun on Saturday night, the goal of the event is for people to walk away scared.

“Especially if people have never been to one [haunted house] before, this I think, is a good opportunity for them to get that experience and then find out if it is something they actually like to do,” Tepps said.

The Haunted Mansion will be held from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Oct. 1 in the UC Hamilton Room. The event is free to students.
