Classic or Plastic: House Hold Life Hacks

Alena Purpero, Lifestyle Editor

The strain we put on ourselves to thrive in school leads us to seek ways to advance our tactics towards success. Thankfully, myths, legends, folk tales, mainstream pop culture and our grandmothers have an archive of beneficial facts that help us advance in life. Those my bright-eyed, bushy-tailed freshman and sleep deprived, fatigued upper class men, iare what we call life hacks.

In order to conquer this new school year, you must be equipped with the most top notch life hacks. While we don’t bother questioning if Twitter or our Grandma is giving us the most factual life hacks, it is important that we differentiate between which life hacks are classic or plastic.

Life hack #1:

Freezing your batteries

Plastic: I was rooting for you Grandma Judy, but it’s time to take those batteries out of your fridge and make room for more important things like your stash of chocolate for s’mores. Duracel says that batteries should be stored at room temperature.  According to snopes.com “Extreme heat or cold reduces battery performance.”

Life hack #2:

Using your Apple laptop charger as a bottle opener

Classic: If you have an apple laptop charger, remove the replaceable wall adapter and use the vacant corner to snap off a bottle cap. You might have to work for it a little bit, but if you’re desperate enough it will work.

Life hack #3:

Lighting a candle with a raw spaghetti noodle.

Classic: Don’t have a barbeque lighter? Try this significantly cheaper alternative and light one end of a spaghetti noodle to light those pesky tall candles, without burning yourself.
