Gov. Walker visits Innovation Center

Gov. Scott Walker was at the Whitewater Innovation Center on Feb. 5, where a UW-Whitewater student and entrepreneur, Andrew Hoeft, was awarded $10,000 in grant money.

Walker made the announcement of the partnership between the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. and the City of Whitewater Community Development Authority.

The announcement included the recognition of Hoeft and Joe Neuman, who were each awarded a $10,000 grant to use toward their new businesses, Date Check Pro and Got Apps, Inc.

Senior Stephanie Abbott, a member of the Whitewater Common Council, attended the event along with UW-Whitewater faculty, staff and students and Whitewater community members.

“We in the city are thrilled to see the results of hard work and dedication on the part of not only the entrepreneurs, but our Community Development Authority and its chair, Jeffery Knight,” Abbott said.  “Governor Walker’s commitment to the entrepreneurial spirit is reflective of our attitude toward innovation and success both in the City of Whitewater and at UW-Whitewater.

Abbott said her and other community members look forward to watching the businesses continue to utilize technology in an ever-changing marketplace.
