The Royal Purple, since 1901, is the independent student newspaper at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. It is printed weekly by Register Print Center in Broadhead, Wisconsin, and 7,000 copies are distributed to the campus and to surrounding businesses every Wednesday during the school year. Single copies are available on campus and in the Whitewater community for free. We have 16 editions each semester.
The editorial staff, all UW-Whitewater students, is solely responsible for the content that appears in the newspaper and online. While the newspaper is printed weekly, the online edition of the Royal Purple is updated throughout the week. The Royal Purple is also funded solely by its advertising revenue. Its advertising department is also all student-run.
The Royal Purple is a member of the Associated Collegiate Press and the Wisconsin Newspaper Association. The paper has won numerous awards in recent years at the state and Midwest level. We won first place in the “Best of Show” category at the 2010 ACP Best of Midwest Contest and we took second place for “General Excellence” at the 2015 WNA Better Newspaper Contest.
