Letter to the Editor: Planned Parenthood not the only option

Oct. 6, 2015

This topic was brought up in the first place from the issue of morality that is present when babies are murdered to harvest their organs for a profit.  And profits are just what Planned Parenthood has incurred.  According to the Planned Parenthood 2013-14 annual report, in 2014 alone Planned Parenthood’s revenues exceeded their expenses by over $90 million.  Not only is this a debate of pro-life vs. pro-choice, this is also a debate of morality, which liberals in Congress seem to lack.

Senate Democrats are willing to shut down the Federal Government in order to ensure the millions each year given to Planned Parenthood continue to flow.  Planned Parenthood actually gave money to Obama’s presidential campaign and fully endorsed him for president.  Imagine the outcry by the liberal media if a Republican were to threaten to shut down the government for a single organization that donated to him or her.

The quote by Ronald Reagan provided in the article is accurately stated.  What the article failed to mention from the 40th president’s words, though, was that there is more than one way to conduct stem cell research.  Ways where innocent lives are not taken away from babies on an operating table.

The attacks on Republicans, calling them anti-women, are false.  Even if Planned Parenthood was defunded, there are other options available for women when it comes to seeking care, testing and cancer screening.  According to the Chiaroscuro Foundation, there are over 1,000 federally qualified health centers in the United States, which actually provide cancer screening, STI testing and contraception for woman.  In addition to these, there are thousands of doctors and hospitals that provide this care.

I urge students to access their information on this, as well as other topics in politics today from sources that provide insight from both sides of the spectrum.  Finally, the Republican Party is not “scrounging” for votes in the primaries.  The Republican Party has several qualified candidates that do not need to scrounge for votes, unlike their opposition which does not have more than a socialist and a federally verified liar running for president.
