Trying to live a healthy lifestyle on a limited budget?

When buying produce, there is nothing like giving back to the community while getting the best quality product. That’s where Whitewater’s City Market comes in.

The City Market was established last year, and it has grown. There are now more than 50 vendors with awesome opportunities offered every Tuesday from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Cravath Lakefront Park. “People look for an alternative to Walmart, a place to get fresh produce and a place to hang out together,” Kristine Zaballos, secretary of the market said.

Sarah Lynn, who has seen the market start up and get to where it is today, says that the market’s success has blown her out of the water. With all the variety of vendors to explore, it is hard not to spend your whole evening at the market.

Sonja Schlesner from Peach Tree Organic Gardens in Brookfield, Wisconsin, is spending her first year at the market after 11 years of market experience.

“The [Whitewater City Market] is a great market with a lot potential,” Schlesner said.

When I went to the market, I was looking for fresh fruit to make a smoothie at an affordable price. My goal was to have it taste similar to one from The SweetSpot or Willie’s 360. That’s when I found this simple, yet delicious recipe that serves two, so you can share it with your roommate, lover, or just have two servings of smoothies.

You can adjust the ingredients to suit your preferences. Place all ingredients in a blender, and blend away. Blend until you get a creamy smoothie that is perfect for you.

What you will need:

  • 5 ounces vanilla yogurt
  • 1½ cup fresh or frozen peaches
  • ½ cup crushed ice
  • ¾ cup coconut milk* (if needed, substitute milk of choice)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon sugar (adjust type of sugar and sweetness to likeness)
