DIY: Apple Dumplings

Jordan Barker, Staff Writer

Nothing says fall like a warm apple dessert that you can share with all of your friends.

The Apple Barn is still open with many opportunities of fun. They are no longer picking apples, but there still are apples available for sale. Just because you can’t go apple picking, doesn’t mean you can’t go with some friends and enjoy a nice warm or cold cup of apple cider for only one dollar. They also have apple cider doughnuts available (half dozen for $4.00 or a dozen for $7.50) and their shop inside consists of many amazing treats and snacks as it gets colder out. They also have a winery attache for all you 21- year-olds. The employees are very friendly and ready to help you if you need it.

For this recipe you will need Granny Smith apples.

What you will need: SERVES 16 – Feel free to cut this in half.

2 large Granny Smith apples

2 (10oz) cans refrigerated crescent roll dough (Sheets)

1 cup butter

1 1/2 cups white sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 (12oz) can or bottle of Mountain Dew

Vanilla Ice cream (to serve with)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Grease a 9×13 baking pan

Peel and core each apple

Cut each apple into 8 slices

Take the sheets of dough and cut them into 8 triangles (cut it in half horizontally- then each half put an x into to to make four on each side)

Place each slice into one triangle on the smallest point- roll them up and pinch the ends to seal them

Place them in the pan – no worries if they touch

Melt the butter in a small sauce pan

Add the sugar and cinnamon and stir until it is all melted together – Pour this over the apples in the pan

Take the Mountain Dew and pour it over the pan as well

Bake for 35-45 min or until golden brown

Once finished baking let cool for a couple minutes and serve with ice cream

Make sure you include the glaze from the pan when you serve

Enjoy!
