Roberson said he has been playing trombone for 12 years. The upcoming student recital will be Roberson’s first solo concert, although he said he has participated in several concerts every year.

In his solo concert, he will play four different songs with the trombone. He will be playing “Alto Trombone Concerto” by Wagenseil, “Ariaet Polonaise” by Jongen, “Fandango” by Turrin, “Jesus is Coming (for Trombone Quartet & Boom box),” by Jacob TV and “A Song for Japan” by Verhelst. He said his favorite song to play is “Jesus is Coming.”

In the future, Roberson said he plans on going into teaching.

“Eventually I’ll be teaching some sort of band, orchestra or general music,” Roberson said. “Probably to play in a professional orchestra would be my dream job.”

Roberson said he also knows how to play the clarinet, flute and bassoon, and he just started learning to play the trumpet and euphonium.

Most of his inspiration for his musical interests comes from his high school band and choir directors.

Roberson said they really encouraged him to pursue a career in music. His trombone professor, Michael Dugan, and almost all faculty members in the music department have also been a good influence, he added.

At the recital, people will be introduced to a lot of classical styles they’ve probably never heard of before. In addition, all are invited to come and there will be food afterwards.

Other students who will be performing in this recital are seniors Peter Friske, Elli Kaetterhenry, J.D. Cooney and sophomore David Farmer.
