The university’s Athletic Department sent an email to coaches late Thursday morning, warning them of the Facebook and Twitter pages titled “UW-Whitewater Confessions.”
The email advised the coaches to encourage their players to not participate in the two pages. The pages operate through a service called SurveyMonkey.com, which allows for posts by the poster to be anonymous.
The UW-Whitewater Confessions page includes crude and sometimes illegal activity.
The following is the transcript of the email:
Please see the email below regarding posting to the UW-Whitewater Confessions Facebook account from our Athletic Department.
Please be aware that UW-System schools all have a ‘Confessions’ Facebook page and twitter accounts. The developer is unknown and people can post their ‘confession’ on the Facebook page anonymously. However, you can see who ‘likes’ or ‘comments’ on the anonymous posting.
The information on these sites is disturbing. Please encourage your student-athletes to not take part in the twitter or Facebook page.
It is important to remind them that they are now developing their ‘on-line portfolio’ and these posting are free for all to view.
Thank you for your assistance.
