Singer finds voice and begins vocation as teen

An early love of music along with a rapidly growing fan base and a pop/rock genre were all Scott Wesley said he needed to get involved with the music business.

“When I was 5 years old, I was drawn to a piano and later on wrote my first song, and I have always loved music,“ Wesley said. “I also played the electric guitar and other instruments.”

When Wesley was 16-years-old, he began his career with a record label called Four Winds Entertainment, Inc., and a record was put on iTunes called “Open Eyes.”

The pop/rock artist is on his third college tour and said he only has a few more days before he heads to Nashville to celebrate the holidays.

“I’m really fortunate to be doing a college tour,” Wesley said. “I love getting the crowd involved with the music and getting a reaction from the crowd.”

His family is supportive of his career and he credits his mother for always encouraging him from day one.

Songwriting comes naturally to the Illinois native who claims it can be therapeutic.

“I come up with lyrics while I’m driving, and when I read books or watch movies, I write down what is inspirational to me,” Wesley said. “I enjoy working with lyrics and seeing the finished product knowing I worked hard.”

SEAL Entertainment Intern DeJaun Garnett said he had fun preparing for Wesley’s arrival on campus.

“I want the students to have a good time while having a good turn-out at the event, even though I’m not a big fan of Wesley’s music,” Garnett said. “Students will be able to tag themselves on Facebook after the event.”

Garnett said his favorite part of the musical acts that come to campus is the interaction with the student crowd.

SEAL voted on the artist as a group to bring him to UW-Whitewater.

“Scott Wesley is different from other acts we’ve had on campus since he is pop like Chris Brown and Michael Jackson but he plays guitar,” Garnett said.

Scott Wesley will perform at 8 p.m. on Nov. 20 in the UC Down Under.
