We are almost halfway through the spring semester and while it doesn’t feel like spring is on its way, the Young Auditorium has a few events in March that intends to brighten your days.
The American Shakespeare Center starts March out with two days of Shakespearean plays back-to-back. On March 10, they present “Dr. Faustus,” which is a haunting tale of a man selling his soul for knowledge and power. From what I’ve heard, the Devil is a rather malicious and scheming creature so naturally things go wrong. While none of Shakespeare’s plays are really all that happy, they are entertaining and I think this one will be quite interesting. Then on March 11, the same cast will perform “Much Ado About Nothing,” a rambling love tale with a battle of the sexes side-plot.
Get ready to travel back to the 1920s and party with the famous classic, “The Great Gatsby.” I won’t lie, I am definitely most excited to see this event out of all the events taking place in March. In case you’ve been living under a rock, “The Great Gatsby” is a story of unrequited love and friendship with a touch of mystery. This play will be brought to UW-W by Montana Repertory Theatre. Catch all the drama at 7:30 p.m. on March 18.
Swing into a performance by the Jazz Ambassadors of the U.S. Army Field Band of Washington D.C. This 19-person group formed in 1969 is the official touring big band of the United States Army. Look forward to a diverse repertoire that includes big band swing, bebop, Latin, contemporary jazz, standards, popular tunes, Dixieland, vocals and patriotic selections, many of which are written or arranged by members of the group. Show your national pride and attend at 7:30 p.m. on March 19.
Revisit your childhood with a twist on the common fairytale, “Goldie B. Locks & The Three Singing Bears.” This year marks the world-premiere of this show. This isn’t your typical stage performance of indecisive Goldilocks; it’s an opera.
As part of the ‘Never Too Young’ series, this play may be for a younger audience but age is just a number. Everyone could use a little fantasy once in a while. Set your inner-child free at 3 p.m. on March 21.
The Young Auditorium has a nice mix of events this month compared to the last two months on the stage. March will be a hard month to top.
