Senior golfer Sammie Leibham recently sat down with Royal Purple staff writer Joe Walsh to ask some questions about her season and favorite golfer.
Royal Purple: In the first competition of the year the Warhawks took 15th, how did you feel the team played?
Sammie Leibham: By how we placed, it seems like we played bad, but it was an extremely good field of golfers this spring. I am proud of how the team did for our first tournament since fall. Kate Winkler shot her career best 83 on day one and Kayla Asleson shot an 80 on day two. It was awesome to get back on the course and play against competition.
RP: How do you think the Warhawks golf team will do this year?
Leibham: This weekend April 17th and 18th is our home tournament and for most of the Varsity members, our season will be done after this weekend. I hope we can put together four solid scores at the home tournament and hopefully win it. I think that would be a great ending for the seniors, including myself.
RP: Is golf the only sport you play? Do you enjoy other sports?
Leibham: Golf is the only competitive sport I play in college, but I enjoy all sports. I also like to play soccer and basketball.
RP: Who is your favorite professional golfer? Why?
Leibham: I would have to say Jordan Spieth. He not only is a great golfer on the course, he does some great stuff outside of golf such as charity events.
RP: Did you think Jordan Spieth would win the Masters?
Leibham: I thought Spieth had a great chance of winning the Masters. At the end of the first round, I thought he pretty much had it in the bag. I’ve never seen golf played that well over a four- day stretch. It’s awesome to see a 21 year old win something as big as that so early in his career.
