The suspect in a sexual assault that took place on the east side of campus was arrested on Aug. 27. Charges have not yet been filed as of press time.
The UW-Whitewater Police Department made the arrest after the female victim reported the assault that took place on Aug. 25 in the Wells towers area. The victim and the suspect knew each other before the crime took place.
The victim reported the crime the next day, kicking off the investigation.
A news release sent out to students and faculty after the arrest stated there is “no reason to believe there is any threat to the campus community.”
Police Chief Matt Kiederlen said anyone who may have been in a situation with unwanted sexual contact should report it to the department.
“Sexual assault, whenever it occurs or is alleged, is a horrendous crime,” he said. “We as a department make it our philosophy to make sure our victim knows we believe them. We are here to investigate the allegations, but we’re also here to get help, provide services, anything the victim needs.”
