PRIDE Center Intern Sam Azzaro believes UW-Whitewater students are not only supportive allies to fellow LGBTQA peers, but to one another as a whole.

This was the thinking behind holding an Ally Open House for students. While everyone was welcome to attend, the open house was directed at making friendships and connections with allies, Azzaro said.

The PB Poorman Pride Center hosted the Ally Open House was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 22 in the University Center.

The open house was designed to be a social gathering to recognize and show appreciation for allies in the community and to thank them for their support. It welcomed people of all ages and from all backgrounds.

Azzaro says the event celebrated not just diversity but the love and acceptance we should have for each other and aimed to create a positive environment on campus.

IMPACT, the university’s supportive organization for all members of the LGBTQA spectrum (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual and their allies), lent a hand with the event.
