The other day I sat in my kitchen as a fly came buzzing through. Immediately I thought, “I must dispose of the pest, this is my home, your home is outside.” But then I thought some more. Is this fly much different than you and I? Imagine yourself on a cold winter night. You know, the ones where you have to walk back from class and you are saying to yourself, “brrrrr.” This fly only did what came naturally to him. He needed some warmth and shelter. He found his way not into what was my home, but in his eyes, it was just an opportunity.
I decided to let him stay awhile. After all, we are simply two life forms sharing a space on this planet. Our time is limited. Let’s enjoy it together. All creatures, big and small, can learn a lot from each other. Sometimes, we may think we are so different. But, in the end, we are all just looking for a nice warm spot to rest for a bit. Don’t worry about it, fly. My door is open to you.
I think it’s an important message as we approach the next election. To keep our hearts, just like our doors, open at all times. It’s the only way we can keep this thing truckin’ for the next generation.
Best wishes,
