The Order of Snitches and Witches, also known as the Marauders Common Room student organization, will be holding a formal Yule Ball for UW-Whitewater students – pure-bloods, a squibs and muggles alike.
The Yule Ball is a winter wonderland combined with Valentine’s Day.
The event goes from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Feb. 11 and will be held in the University Center Old Main ballroom.
Sophomore Caitlin Baker, vice president of the organization and one of the event’s coordinators, encourages all students to take part.
“Come as a group or come as couples, everyone [should] just come to have fun,” Baker said.
Senior Casandra Stalans, president of the organization, said members are volunteering their baking skills for the event. Light refreshments will be served for attendees in the form of baked goods and fruit punch, she said.
There is a door charge of $2 for the event, which funds raffle prizes all attendees are entered into just by walking through the door. The raffle prize is a “stocking stuffed with goodies,” Baker said. Those looking to attend are advised to arrive by 9 p.m. at the latest so they can get a raffle ticket in time before the winner is drawn.
While there isn’t a defined dress code, the event organizers would prefer for attendees to dress more fancy.
“We won’t turn you away, but we want people to be more formally dressed,” Baker said.
The Yule Ball has been no small undertaking for the organization – the event has been planned since the beginning of the Fall 2015 semester. Much of the planning for the event occur at their meetings, held at 6:30 p.m. on Mondays in Hyland Hall room 1317, which are open to anyone interested in learning more about the group.
