The men’s tennis team took care of business last weekend, winning both matches, while the women lost two of three.
Head coach Frank Barnes said he is confident in the men’s teams play thus far and likes its chances in its upcoming road matches.
“I think we’re playing really solid heading into the UW matches,” Barnes said. “We’re taking every match seriously and have a businesslike approach into it.”
After the men travel to Eau Claire Friday through Saturday to face the UW-Oshkosh Titans, UW-La Crosse Eagles and UW-Eau Claire Blugolds, it then travels to UW-Green Bay on Sunday to face the Phoenix and St. Norbert College. The men are riding a 12-match winning streak.
On the other side, the women are off until it hosts the WIAC Final Four April 30.
The tournament consists of the top four teams in the conference from the fall season and will determine who will represent the WIAC in the NCAA Division III championship.
The men continued its winning streak this past weekend after defeating Carroll University and Coe College.
In their first match against Carroll, they swept with a 9-0 win. In their second match against Coe, they won 8-1.
Although the women lost two matches, it came out with a victory against Luther College, 5-4.
In their match against No. 3 (ITA poll) University of Chicago, the ’Hawks lost 6-3.
The ’Hawks also fell to No. 14 DePauw University, 6-3.
However, Barnes was impressed with junior Sydney Divelbiss and freshman Alexandra Bayliss.
Neither lost a match last weekend.
Bayliss has also now broke the school record for most victories in a season at a flight other than No. 1 singles with 31.
“They were our rocks of the weekend,” Barnes said.
