Sophomore Michael Roherty ran the Boston Marathon on Monday at a time of 2:52:07, breaking his personal record.
Roherty’s tentative goal for this marathon was to run under 3:00.
At the Chicago Marathon last fall, Roherty ran his best time at 3:03.
According to the Boston Marathon official website, there were 26,907 participants. Roherty placed 705th.
“There were many times where I thought I wanted to slow down,” Roherty said. “ Two major points of help were the Wesley College girls at mile 12. They all screamed so hard and just gave me a major burst of energy.
“The second was after finishing ‘heartbreak’ hill. I knew that the hardest part of the course was done and that I could do it. This gave me a second wind and an awesome finish.”
Runners came from all 50 states and 68 countries; including Argentina, Chile, France, Ireland and New Zealand.
From Wisconsin alone, 452 runners ran in the marathon.
