Seven months.
This is how long it has been since the Kilar family lost their son Treyton to a drunk driver. Yet donations, efforts and support continue to bless the Kilars not only from friends and family, but also from organizations and companies.
The Kilars are planning for the Family Fun Day fundraiser next month to help build Treyton’s Field of Dreams.
“One of the things our family is trying to do is make the events about family and fun,” Mary Kilar, Treyton’s mother, said. “We really hope the May 14 event will be a great family time together for everybody.”
Family Fun Day will go from 3 p.m -midnight May 14 at the American Legion in Whitewater.
A live auction will take place at 8:30 p.m. offering a one-week vacation to a Florida condo, a one-week trip to a Tennessee cabin, a powerboat tour of Lake Michigan and many other great items. A silent auction will offer other items from 3-4:30 p.m., 5-6:30 p.m. and 7-8:15 p.m.
Food and beverages will also be distributed throughout the day, along with children’s activities from 3-6 p.m. and live music from 7-11 p.m.
Amie Alvarado, a family friend of the Kilars, said Taco Bell in Whitewater will hold an event from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4. Taco Bell asks that people looking to make a donation for the Family Fun Day event on May 14 bring in their donations early to the restaurant.
Taco Bell will donate 50 cents for every large soda purchased within that time frame.
Alvarado assists the Kilar family by helping with the website treysfield.org, and helps manage additional social media accounts, such as Twitter, Facebook and Treyton’s email account.
She also makes sure any information from potential donators gets addressed to Mike and Mary Kilar before agreeing to anything, Alvarado said.
Kilar said Alvarado’s efforts have been phenomenal.
“If you would have asked me way back when, ‘Where would you envision your family in a couple of months,’ I would never have guessed it would have had this much fundraising,” Kilar said. “We owe a ton of that to Amie. We joke and say that Amie has become Trey’s agent.”
Kilar said the fundraising efforts wouldn’t have been possible without Alvarado. With Treyton’s Field of Dreams exceeding more than $85,000 in donations, only $65,000 more is needed to begin construction.
“It’s an honor to be a part of such a wonderful cause for such a great person and family,” Alvarado said.
UW-W Field of Dreams is an organization started on campus a few months ago by students interested in helping make the field a reality.
The organization is hosting a kickball tournament and scavenger hunt from 2-8 p.m. Friday at Starin Park.
The tournament will consist of teams made up of seven to 12 people, with each person paying $5.
The scavenger hunt will cost participants $2. All proceeds will go towards the construction of the field.
“There’s just so many wonderful people that have come forward willing to support, help and do anything they can to see this field happen,” Alvarado said.
Recently, the Kilars also received a check from the Arrowhead School District Booster Club for $1,200.
The Kilars are hoping for a big turnout for the Family Fun Day fundraiser.
“We never set expectations because we’re always surpassed in what we ever think is going to be possible,” Kilar said. “Regardless of what money we raise, the community coming together for one common goal—that makes a better world.”
