Spring intramural sports sign up begins
January 27, 2020
As the semester kicks off this January, so have the intramural sports offered at the William’s Center! Students of all different backgrounds and experiences in athletics can find a variety of intramural sports offered for them. This semester, along with student favorites like basketball and volleyball, players can find new games offered like Futsal (indoor soccer on a smaller court), Wallyball (a mix of dodgeball and volleyball), and Innertube Water Polo, along with many others. Students can see a complete list of intramural sports offered this spring semester by checking the Rec Sports webpage at uww.edu/recsports. Also on the page, students can find registration deadlines, team costs and links to sign up.
There are many reasons why a student might get involved with intramural sports; These reasons range from just wanting to have fun with friends to perhaps building a serious, competitive team, and some students just love to play the games. Andrew O’Neill, an accounting major and a senior this year, has played four different intramural sports during his time at UW-Whitewater. When asked if he had any negative experiences with intramural sports, he stated, “Yes, but only if the other team doesn’t show up or forfeits. We get the win, but we don’t get to play.” Regardless of the reasoning, Rec Sports welcomes all students to try one of the intramural sports offered.
“A sport for everyone, and everyone in a sport,” is the Office of Recreation Sports & Facilities moto and the Assistant Director of Intramural and Club Sports, Matt Scheider, said, “We really do care about everyone’s experience [with intramural sports] and we are happy to hear you out if there are any comments or suggestions.” Schneider recommends that if a student wants to play a sport that is currently not offered, then they should email [email protected]. “We are all ears to suggestions!”
Playing an intramural sport at UW-Whitewater can be a really fulfilling way to hang out with friends, let loose, and play your next favorite sport.
