Dear Warhawks,

Thank you for attending the listening sessions related to the budget. As I said in my opening remarks, this is a time for us to exercise our shared values of collaboration and shared governance so we can problem solve with integrity.

As we further investigate this budget imperative, let us seek information to offset speculation. Let us shape and shepherd the actions necessary to solve our budget concerns in a consultative arena of candor. Let us amplify our conversations to the external community, and let us know we are deeply committed to solving these budgeting problems.

There will be many opportunities to stay engaged such as completing the faculty and student surveys, attending future listening sessions, submitting suggestions and comments to Chief of Staff Kari Heidenreich ([email protected]), talking to governance leaders, participating in work and task groups, and consulting with academic, administrative and student affairs units.

Remember the tenets of a courageous conversation are to:

– Speak your truth.

– Experience the discomfort.

– Expect and accept non-closure.

– Stay engaged.

On Monday, we will hold the State of the University address. The budget will be part of that address, however, it is also an opportunity to honor our successes. I do not want any of you to lose sight of the greatness of this university or the work that you do. UW-Whitewater is a place that transforms lives. It is powerful work that we do very well. On Monday, we will celebrate our colleagues and our accomplishments. I hope you will join us at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3 in the Young Auditorium.
