Let’s all go to the movies

Whitewater Cinemas offers new perks and promotions

Have you missed going out to the movies during the pandemic? Well wait no longer because Whitewater Cinemas is open, showing a variety of new and old films.

In the mood for a Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Despicable Me or Secret Life of Pets marathon? They’ve got you covered. How about some larger than life classics like, Jurassic Park and Jaws

And if you’re not comfortable going inside for a movie, you can still enjoy one in the parking lot on Friday and Saturday nights. Whitewater Cinemas now has a drive-in screen and movie-goers are loving it.

“We’re showing older films on the screen and broadcasting the sound over FM radio for people to tune in while they watch. This has been a huge hit, and we’re planning on running it until the weather is just too cold to watch outside anymore,” said one of the owners Jake Gildemeister. “For the rest of the month, we plan to show The Nightmare Before Christmas on the weekend of the 16th, and Hocus Pocus on Halloween weekend.”

Gildemeister is hoping to grow audiences with these new perks and promotions since it had to close March 14 due to pandemic guidelines. While closed, they renovated the interior look to include new paint and new bathrooms.

“These were changes that we’ve been wanting to make for awhile, but we never had the time to close, so we felt there was no better time. After these renovations, we opened back up in June and have seen a fraction of the customers we usually do,” said Gildemeister.

Although business is slow, the staff works hard to still offer the community what they can, even for those who don’t want to watch movies. The theater offers online ordering and curbside pickup for people who crave those concessions you can only get at the cinema.

“With this offering, we are doing a monthly draw for free tickets for the year of 2021. With each purchase of a giant to-go popcorn, people will be entered to win free tickets for the year of 2021,” said Gildemeister.

On top of online ordering, ticket prices are reduced to just $5 for every single showtime. New movies are now coming back out again and Gildemeister is excited for the blockbuster release of Wonder Woman on Christmas Day.

“We have big plans for 2021 to include more food offerings and a more modern theater experience,” Gildemeister said. “But we just have to get there first!”
