In just their first invitational of the year, the Warhawk women’s golf team has shown that they will compete at the top of the conference.
Participating in the Georgianni Memorial UW-Eau Claire Invite this last weekend, the ’Hawks finished sixth-place finish out of 22 teams.
They will travel to Oshkosh Saturday to take place in the UW-Oshkosh Invitational.
Day one looked good for the ’Hawks, after freshman Paytan Saari fired a team-best 78 in just her first round ever. The team shot a 331 as a team, and was just 13 shots off the lead in seventh place.
Only shots behind the lead, day two turned out to be different.
The second round was held at a different golf course than the first day, which made the conditions harder. Only two teams out of the 22 shot better than the first day, but for the ’Hawks that didn’t matter, as they moved up to sixth place.
The ’Hawks were led by junior Nicole Wescott, who carded a 165 (86, 79).
Wescott finished in 13th place in the invite, while Saari finished behind her in 21st place, firing a 168 (78, 90).
With many good teams competing in the invite, the ‘Hawks finished second best out of the WIAC teams, behind UW-Eau Claire, who won the conference championship a season ago.
