Upcoming campus performances
October 24, 2021
Young Auditorium, Roberta’s Art Gallery and Light Recital Hall are just a few of the places that will be hosting events this winter that you don’t want to miss. A lineup jam-packed with something for everyone, the performances are great for a night out with family or college friends you haven’t seen in a while. They are guaranteed to get you in the holiday mood and feeling festive, so prepare yourself for some great shows!
Taking a look at Young Auditorium, feature events include a brand new stage show called, “Keep ‘Er Movin,” by Charlie Berens, who is known for creating the infamous Manitowoc Minute. This event will take place on Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. Shortly after, UW-Whitewater Music Department’s annual Gala Benefit Concert will take place on Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. This event features student ensembles, with all proceeds directly going to the Music Department Scholarship fund for students who have shown academic excellence and talent.
Towards the beginning of the new year, they will also be celebrating one of their fan favorite seasonal events, John Mueller’s Winter Dance Party, on Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. Described as, “…the official live and authentic re-creation of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper’s final tour,” it will surely be a night to remember.
Furthermore, the Lightwire Theatre is producing “A Very Electric Christmas,” an intricate light show bound to bring Christmas cheer to all. The electrifying event will take place twice on Dec. 12 at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Similarly, in honor of the season, Light Recital Hall will be holding the Jazz Combo Holiday Concert. Filled with merry pieces intended to melt the hearts of the audience, the performance is due to occur on Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
Last but certainly not least, there are multiple exhibits being displayed at Roberta’s Art Gallery located in the James R. Connor University Center. Artist Paul Smith will be featured throughout the gallery with his exhibit, “Facing Addictions” on display from Nov. 3 to Nov. 26. Coming in quickly after Smith’s pieces, is artist Nina Ghanbarzadeh’s exhibit, “For the Love of Alif Baa” showing from Dec. 1 to Jan. 5. Art lovers, this means that there will be plenty of beautiful works to view for the upcoming months on cold snowy days in Whitewater. When you’re itching to get out but not sure what to do, stop in and check it out, all admission is free.
Whether you’re a fan of the visual arts or music, there are an abundance of events to attend in Whitewater as we transition into winter including many more events that were not mentioned.
