Starting Monday, Oct. 25, students are encouraged to participate in the traditional homecoming activities made possible by the year-long preparations from the homecoming committee.

With the collaboration of 14 students, including Homecoming Chair Will Heinz and Vice Chair Mary Domich, the Warhawk pride is expected to be at an all-time high.

“While it was different, we did have a virtual week of activities last year. We are, however, excited to be back in person this year. Some of our traditional in-person events, like Tug of War and Bed Races, just can’t be duplicated virtually,” said homecoming advisor Olivia Allen. 

Along with the bed races and tug of war competitions, students can also participate individually or with groups in bingo, trivia, the talent show and be a part of the parade. 

“I am personally the most excited for the parade. I love seeing our school show off our spirit and have the community support us all,” said Domich.

There will be about 20 organizations taking part in the parade with Chancellor Jim Henderson and the Homecoming Royalty getting special spots. Some community groups will join in as well. 

The homecoming court will be announced during Monday’s study night, kicking off the celebrations. 

For the competitive events, organizations are fighting to win the spirit cup and the championship cup. 

“Spirit cup celebrates the top organization that shows Warhawk spirit. Points are awarded throughout the week to groups that showcase good sportsmanship, Warhawk pride, etc.,” said Allen. “Championship Cup points are earned solely based on the organization’s place and rank in competitions.”

Throughout the week there will also be events for returning alumni such as the alumni reunion dinner and reception honoring the classes of 1970 and 1971. 

Alumni, students and the rest of the community are welcome to attend the homecoming football game on Saturday, Oct. 30 starting at 1 p.m.

There will be plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy. 

“Will and I really tried to focus on how to make sure every student would be able to participate and enjoy homecoming, regardless of their status within student organizations,” said Domich. “It has been a lot of hard work, and very stressful at times, but we are looking forward to seeing how this is all going to play out and we are confident that it will be one of the best Homecomings that UWW has ever hosted.”
