A gas line ruptured Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Main and Whiton Streets.
The pipeline ruptured during construction efforts at the intersection where traffic lights are being installed over the next month.
Gas fumes drifted from the construction site and several buildings including Hyer Hall and Andersen Library were evacuated.
Several students reported feeling dizzy or sick from the fumes.
Emails were sent out through the UW-Whitewater Emergency Information site informing students of updates regarding the gas leak.
Check back soon for a full update.
Students were allowed back in to buildings within approximately a half hour of evacuations.
