The Warhawks women’s golf team is about to open up their spring season after yet another strong fall season where they won their sixth straight WIAC championship. Because the Warhawks won the conference championship in the fall they have already punched their ticket to the NCAA tournament.

“We use the spring tournament to get us prepared for the national tournament.” says head coach Andrea Wieland. “Most other conferences have their conference tournament in the spring so they build up to preparing for that.”

For the spring season the Warhawks have a special spring break trip. They will be heading to Northern Ireland. They will be there March 24-31, playing at some of the best courses in the world.  Including the number 1  ranked public course in the world, Royal County Down. “We are lucky to take this trip as a team, and with some of our family members, so it gives everyone an experience of a lifetime!  We will not be competing in Northern Ireland, but we will get some great practice during our visit.” says Wieland

Due to the bad weather that usually comes with the spring season. The Warhawks use this as a learning experience for their mental toughness.. The goal for the Warhawks though is to finish top 15 in the NCAA tournament. The Warhawks can achieve this with one of their biggest strengths: team chemistry. “We enjoy learning together and growing as a team.  It’s a dynamic that really helps develop the players throughout the season.” says Wieand. Something Wieland mentioned that they need to work on is their ball striking and putting. You can also expect some big pushes this season from senior Grace Westerman and freshman Abbie Reiser as well as the same starting five from the fall season.

The Warhawks will face some good competition this season when they will compete in the Illinois Wesleyan tournament which has a strong field as well as adding the St. Olaf tournament for the first time this season which features a lot of top ranked opponents in their region.
