Assistant Professor James Terkeurst has worked all over the world in places like Dubai, Scottland, Japan and North Yorkshire. He just arrived in Whitewater to teach in the new Media Arts and Game Design major.
1. Why did you come to Whitewater?
There’s a few reasons. One is my family is nearby and also that Whitewater was doing the Arts and Game Development program which has loads of potential.
2. What is your favorite band or artist?
I like all kinds of bands from all kinds of eras. Everybody from “Bonnie Prince Billy” to “Radiohead” and “LCD Soundsystem.”
3. What is your favorite movie or movie character?
I watch a lot of movies; I am a member of BAFTA which is the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. Most recent films that I really liked are “Another Year,” “Slumdog Millionaire,” “The King’s Speech,” I really liked “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.”
4. What is your guilty pleasure?
I don’t feel much guilt in my life.
5. What color crayon would you be?
I would be that kid with the box of 128. I always envied that kid. Probably orange – vibrant, friendly.
6. How would you describe yourself in three words?
Visual, adventurous, persistent
7. What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
Vanilla with the little bits of vanilla in it so it’s really vanilla-y
8. What would you do if you won the lottery?
I can never imagine that, so I think the first thing I would do is go somewhere no one could find me and think about it for a year.
9. If you had a time machine, where would you go?
Well, I’d hate to get sick a few hundred years ago – maybe I’d go to the future.
10. Where would you most like to visit?
Anywhere I can swim and surf.
11. What would you be doing if you weren’t teaching?
I would be working in media.
12. Are you a coffee or tea person?
Coffee.
13. How do you want students to view you as a professor?
Teaching, to me, is all about helping others to achieve their aspirations. The most exciting thing is seeing creative people and help them express themselves. Doing that is how you bring out really unique talents that make the world a more interesting place.
