Voting is one of the most important things to do every year. Your individual vote impacts who represents you in the government, and in turn, they decide things like legalizing weed, protecting your rights, and even giving funding to our college. In my work with College Democrats, I personally volunteer my time to spread voting information on campus because it works. In the past two elections in Wisconsin, the youth vote has skyrocketed, leading to blue victories across the state. According to the 2022 NPR article, Young voters helped Democrats win the Senate and other midterm elections, by Alana Wise, “Early estimates suggest that midterm turnout among people under 30 was the second highest it’s been in three decades, outpaced only by 2018 — the election after Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential win.” One of the main reasons why young people don’t vote is because they think their voice doesn’t matter. They think they are just one tiny fish in a vast sea. But these statistics do not lie. They prove that the youth vote did impact the results of the 2022 election. You should vote because your voice could determine major elections, like the upcoming presidential race in 2024. You deserve to be heard.
