The UW-Whitewater Swim and Dive team spent the weekend in Wheaton, Illinois, as they competed in the Wheaton Invitational. The Warhawks took third place in the eight team invite which took place over three days. Their performance was highlighted by the record breaking contributions of Dom Shlueter.
The sophomore broke the Whitewater school record for the 200-yard freestyle. Clocking in at 1 minute 40.6 seconds, the young competitor wrote his name in the Warhawk record book almost a quarter second ahead of the previous record holder. Shlueter finished in first place in the event.
According to the UWW sports website, his efforts were also felt in the 200-yard relay. He along with Ethan Bergman, Donny Gramer and Ethan Schmohe took fifth place in the event, finishing in 1:24.78. Bergman, Ethan Coons and Matt Ozog took sixth through eighth in the 100-yard freestyle.
Daniel Keller took second place with a time of 4:14.94 in the 400-yard IM race. Meanwhile. Owen Phillips finished in fourth place in the 200-yard breaststroke, his time was 2:11.6. In the longest race of the invite, Hunter Hayberger took 17:07.57 to complete the 1650 yard freestyle.
Full results of the invite can be found on the Wheaton website. The Warhawks have closed off the first half of their season as they now take time to train for the 2024 side of the season. Lake Forest, Illinois is their next destination as they open up that 2024 campaign.
