The Whitewater Common Council met to hold discussions that included the possible implementation of having a safe haven baby box at the fire department. The meeting covered potential action involving the First Amendment to the emergency communication radio system site improvement and use agreement between Walworth County and the City of Whitewater. They discussed potential action involving strand associate’s task 24-04 for lead service line replacement, potential action awarding contract 5-2024, 2024 street maintenance project, and open council member requests regarding future agenda items.
A number of upgrades are to be expected for the Whitewater Fire Department.
“We got some pictures up here with the controlled burning the effigy mounds performed by the fire department, also helps with the cleanup and setup of equipment at the aquatic center for the Polar Plunge and other related activities,” City Manager John Weidl said. “…The concrete floor has been poured for the vehicle storage area, and in wastewater parts were ordered for the hydraulic line replacement and the UV hydraulic line replacement.”
The total project estimate is $172,500. The Common Council also included the possible action of implementing a safe haven baby box project for the fire department.
“It’s a tragic topic and we felt that the effects last year with the unfortunate finding of an infant last year. Hopefully this step can prevent further tragedies,” District Two Alderman Lukas Schreiber said. “I hope to see this safe haven project communicated not only to Whitewater but the surrounding communities as well.”
The Lake Advisory Committee has met a total of three times and a presentation was shown from the Whitewater Rice Lake District. The committee has also established a number of goals and objectives for the lakes. The Common Council meeting wrapped up with talks of a street maintenance project.
