UW-Whitewater is propelling into another season of showcasing their student’s artistic abilities and offering many exciting opportunities to entertain their students, beginning with the College of Arts and Communication’s various events throughout the fall season.
These events consist of art exhibits such as the Fiber Connections Art Exhibit, Sept. 9-26, at Crossman Gallery that is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Also in the Crossman Gallery is the Juried Student Art Exhibition, Oct. 7-24. Not only does UW-W have monthly exhibits, but also night events such as the “Unbreakable Strength: Exploring Indigenous Resistance and Healing Through Textiles” exhibit reception on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m.
Musical showcases events such as Sonict Guest Artists: Drew Whiting, saxophone, and Kirstin Ihde, piano Tuesday. This performance is Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. The Ancora String Quartet with Vincent deVries takes place Thursday, Sept. 12, at 7:30 p.m. Music Mosaics: Schubertiade – Music by Franz Schubert closes out the September performances Sunday, Sept. 15, at 3 p.m. Kelso studio recital and chamber music will take place Sunday, Oct. 13, at 3 p.m.
There are also musical clinics offered such as the annual Musical Theatre Day Clinic Fall 2024 Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. In addition, the All Day Music Major for a Day takes place Monday, Oct. 14.
With talented students come competitions and awards. Whitewater offers two main events, the College of Arts and Communication Scholarship Ceremony on Tuesday, Sept. 17, and the MTNA Competition – WI State Finals Saturday, Oct. 12.
The final main event UW-W College of Arts and Communications will be showcasing is the annual fall season play. For the 2024 season play is “Lady Windermere’s Fan,” which opens Friday, Oct. 4, and runs through Oct. 12, showtimes vary.
Regarding all these extraordinary upcoming events, Dean of the College of Arts and Communication, Michael Dugan expressed a few positive words.
“We’re thrilled about the incredible lineup of faculty and student music ensembles, theater productions, art exhibits, and more this fall,” Dugan said. “Our students and faculty are working hard to create performances and artistic pieces that will inspire and entertain. This is a great opportunity for everyone to experience the talent we have right here at UW-Whitewater.”
The UW-W auditorium chamber newly named, “The Young” has many worthwhile events for students this fall season. Beginning with a visit from comedian Kelly Kellz on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. Following is Glow Night on Friday, Sept 6, at 7 p.m., and a tie-dye workshop on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m. More events to follow are another visit from the Psychic Soulmates: Anthem & Aria on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. As well as two throwback nights, 2000s Karaoke on Thursday, September 19, and LEGO Night on Wednesday, September 25.
“We are excited to roll out the new branding we’ve been working on all summer as well as kick-off the start to our 24-25 season of shows,” said “The Young” Director of Marketing Brian Breezer.
Whitewater’s wide range of artistic events throughout the fall are sure to be exciting and pique interest from many.
