Dear Warhawks,
On behalf of the City of Whitewater, I want to warmly welcome you as you embark on another exciting year at UW-Whitewater. Whether you’re a returning student or joining our community for the first time, we’re thrilled to have you here and hope you find Whitewater a place where you can thrive both academically and personally.
As someone who is also a part of the UW-Whitewater family, I can personally attest to the supportive and enriching environment this community offers. I am currently pursuing my Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) in the College of Business and Economics, and my wife is a proud alumna, having received her Master’s degree from UW-Whitewater. We both know firsthand the incredible opportunities that await you in the classroom and the community.
As you settle in, I encourage you to explore the vibrant offerings our city has in store for you. Whitewater is a community that values collaboration and partnership, working tirelessly to bring many events and opportunities to life. For example, the highly anticipated Food Truck Festival is coming up in a few weeks, where you can mingle with fellow students and residents while sampling some of our area’s best food trucks.
In October, be sure to check out Whitewater Pride, a celebration of diversity and inclusion that reflects the welcoming spirit of Whitewater. This event not only honors the LGBTQ+ community but also serves as a testament to our city’s commitment to fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and respected. Our parks department also hosts a summer concert series and developing the first ever Christmas in Cravath light up walk through the park.
One of the ongoing highlights of our community is the Whitewater City Market, which takes place every Tuesday evening during the warmer months. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy fresh produce, handmade goods, and live music, all while connecting with the heart of Whitewater’s local culture.
Additionally, if you’re into outdoor activities, don’t miss the Discover Whitewater Series 10K and Half Marathon, which brings residents, students, and visitors together to celebrate health and fitness in our beautiful surroundings.
Whitewater also has a significant historical site—the Effigy Mounds Preserve. These ancient mounds are a historical landmark and are a must-see for those interested in history and archaeology. The preserve offers a serene environment where you can reflect on the deep history of this area and gain a greater appreciation for the land we all share.
Beyond these events, Whitewater offers a rich tapestry of experiences you can explore throughout the year. From the Fourth of July festival to outdoor recreation, there’s something going on all year round for everyone here. Our local parks, trails, and lakes provide a perfect escape into nature, whether you’re looking to hike, bike, or relax by the water. For those interested in the arts, the Whitewater Arts Alliance offers a variety of exhibits and programs that showcase local talent and creativity.
To stay informed about all the happenings around the city, I encourage you to visit our official city website. This site is a valuable resource for both new and returning students. Here, you’ll find helpful links to report a concern, sign up to vote, and learn about paying for utilities online if you’re living off-campus. Our events calendar includes links to the calendars for the Chamber of Commerce, Parks and Recreation, UW-Whitewater and the Whitewater Unified School District, so you’ll never miss out on what’s happening in Whitewater.
For those of you looking to get more involved in the community, there are plenty of opportunities. Whitewater’s boards and commissions are always looking for passionate individuals who want to contribute to the betterment of our city. Serving on one of these boards is not only a great way to give back but also a unique opportunity to gain leadership experience and make a tangible impact on the community.
As you navigate through the academic year, I want to remind you that Whitewater is more than just a place where you attend classes—it’s a community that cares about your well being and success. Whether facing challenges or celebrating achievements, know that the city is here to support you. From our local businesses to city services, we are committed to creating an environment where you can thrive.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need assistance. Our city offices are open and ready to help, whether you need information on local services, guidance on getting involved, or a friendly chat about what’s happening in town.
In closing, I express my gratitude for choosing UW-Whitewater and being part of this wonderfully diverse and inclusive community. Your presence enriches our city, bringing new energy, ideas, and perspectives that contribute to its vibrancy. We are excited to see what you will accomplish this year and look forward to supporting you every step of the way.
