Starin Road, between Warhawk Drive and just east of the UW-Whitewater Bookstore, will be temporarily closed during specific times starting Monday, Oct. 7 and ending Friday, Oct. 18. Closure times are Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Access to parking lots will not be affected, however motorists will need to come from the correct direction as to not be stopped by the closure.
While the closure is in effect motorists should use alternate routes such as County Highway U, Schwager Drive or Main St.
According to a release from City of Whitewater Director of Public Works Brad Marquardt the closure is to investigate ways to improve pedestrian safety. Specifically, UWW is interested in improving pedestrian safety crossing Starin Road between Prince St. and Prairie St. Nearly every student at the university has to cross Starin Road every day while classes are in session.
The university and the city have collaborated for this closure to happen, with the City Council authorizing the two week temporary closure. They hope to gather more information about improving pedestrian safety by conducting this vehicular traffic closure.
