The 14th annual Run for Trey took place at the Treyton’s Field of Dreams in Whitewater Oct. 6. The event came to a close as runners ran around the field to the finish line on the baseball field. This year there were about 250 runners that came out for the run, as well as 60 volunteers that helped make the Run for Trey event happen. There was also merchandise available for purchase to help support the cause.
“I think each year we try to increase awareness around destructive decisions, and the venue is this run, right? The run is a memory of a trait, and we continue to do it each year. We try to grow runners each year, which tells us that awareness is growing differently from last year. We want to show gratitude to our community,” mother of Trey and yearly participant Mary Kilar said.
“The number of participants, the volunteers continue to grow, the runners continue to grow each year. What I like is when everybody gathers around Treyton’s statue to have more and more people participating.” Molly Fuller said.
Both Kilar and Fuller are organizers of the event and have both done a great deal contributing towards Treyton’s legacy. The number of participants continues to grow year after year and awareness continues to spread across Whitewater.
Trey was killed in a drunk driving accident. The purpose of Run for Trey is to spread awareness so other people don’t make destructive decisions. Trey’s memory continues to live on year after year with the growing participation of the event hosted every year.
