Love is in the air, and there is no shortage of Valentine’s Day festivities in Wisconsin. Whether you’re seeking your next adventure, a new favorite foodie destination, or discovering small-town charm, we’ve got you covered with ideas for a day spent with that special someone.
For Adventure Lovers
Snowmobiling
Weather permitting, snowmobiling is a great way to spend Valentine’s Day with your partner. Get your adrenaline pumping, and stop somewhere along the way to grab a bite to eat. Bundle up and make the trails an all-day adventure!
Dog Sledding
Have you tried out dog sledding? If not, you’re missing out! There are a multitude of mushers around Wisconsin to show you the ropes. If this sounds up your alley, or you want to learn more, be sure to check out our Uniquely Wisconsin feature,’Wisconsin Musher & the Love for Their Dogs | Beauty Behind Dog Sledding’ with Melissa Omernick on the Discover Wisconsin YouTube channel.
Ice Skating
A Valentine’s Day classic is ice skating, not to mention, most communities have rinks available for free! If you have your skates, venture out to a frozen lake or pond. If not, try out Tenney Park in Madison, Slice of Ice in Red Arrow Park or the Olympic Training Center, Pettit National Ice Center, in Milwaukee. All of these facilities have skates available for rent, and some even have hockey sticks available.
For Foodies
The Del-Bar
Located in the Wisconsin Dells, The Del-Bar is a Wisconsin classic when it comes to food. This supper club is the perfect place to celebrate love–check out their story on their website and you’ll see how much connection, community, and tradition mean to them. They also have a large menu, so you’re sure to find something you’ll like.
Buck & Honey’s
Buck and Honey’s is a prime destination for Valentine’s Day with that special someone. This spot is the perfect place to sit back, relax, and enjoy the service they have to offer. You’ll feel at ease in their upscale casual atmosphere, and enjoy some of Wisconsin’s best, scratch-made eats.
Sobie’s Restaurant
Looking for casual dining with a unique menu? Check out Sobie’s Restaurant in Oconomowoc. You’re guaranteed a good meal here, ranging from butter burgers to crème brûlée french toast and coq au vin, this is the ultimate foodie destination. Not to mention, they have a large hand-crafted cocktail menu to try out as well. Sobie’s offers brunch, lunch, and dinner, so be sure to make a reservation!
Small-Town Romance in Door County
Arguably one of the most romantic destinations in Wisconsin is Door County. With a variety of small towns to choose from, including Ephraim, Fish Creek, Sister Bay, Bailey’s Harbor, and more, you’re guaranteed to make the most out of your time spent here.
Wine and Dine
Try out one of the many wineries the area has to offer such as Door Peninsula Winery, Lautenbach’s Country Winery and Market, or Door 44 Winery. Hungry? Check out brunch with a Lake Michigan view at The Old Post Office Restaurant, enjoy Swedish charm at Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant and Butik, or grab a cup of coffee at Door County Coffee and Tea Company.
Where To Stay
Make a whole weekend out of Valentine’s Day and stay at one of the many places these small towns have to offer. One recommendation we have is Homestead Suites in Fish Creek. It has luxurious rooms and suites, an indoor pool and hot tub, and is adjacent to Peninsula State Park, where you can indulge in various winter activities. Another great place to stay is the Edgewater Resort in Ephraim. Overlooking Eagle Harbor, this resort is within walking distance of wine bars, restaurants, galleries, and more.
Whether it’s taking on the trails, dining at a romantic supper club, or discovering Door County’s charm, Wisconsin is the perfect place to spend the day with someone special.
