Rise and shine, breakfast lovers! As February heats up with National Hot Breakfast Month, we’re mapping out four hot spots in Wisconsin where you can indulge in delightful morning flavors. From charming diners to beloved bakeries, these local gems are ready to serve up deliciousness that will make your mornings brighter. So, let’s dig in and explore what Wisconsin has to offer!
Northwoods Nooks
Our breakfast trail begins in Delta, Wisconsin, at none other than the Delta Diner–a time machine to 1940s roadside dining. This legendary spot offers an authentic diner experience with specialty sandwiches and from-scratch Blue Plate Specials that change daily.
A few Blue Plate favorites include stuffed hashbrowns, specialty omelets, biscuits and gravy, and of course, the infamous Norwegian Pancakes–a dish that has been on the menu since day one. These Delta Diner delicacies are thin, unique, and unlike any other pancake. If you’re feeling adventurous, top them with diced jalapeños for an unexpectedly delicious kick!
For another truly unique breakfast experience in the Northwoods, head to Lakewood, home to Braise North. This culinary gem is renowned for its exceptional breakfast menu that highlights locally sourced ingredients and made-from-scratch dishes.
Looking for lighter fare? Indulge in house-made croissants, baked to perfection. Heartier breakfast options include toasted Market Buns, filled with an assortment of savory ingredients, and seasonal quiches–a staple on the menu. Each slice is light, fluffy, and crafted with fresh ingredients, from meats to vegetables.
Southern Specials
Follow Wisconsin’s morning flavors to the southern part of the state, where more specials await! In Jefferson County, stop by two must-visits: Brickhaus and Route 19.
At Brickhaus Cafe, enjoy freshly baked delights from the bakery or order a full breakfast meal.
The bakery offers warm, fresh-from-the-oven breads, scones, cupcakes, bars, muffins, and the list goes on!
For breakfast, fill up on their classic Breakfast Sandwich–a combo of freshly scrambled eggs and cheese with your choice of meat and veggies. Or, try Twice Baked Oatmeal loaded with goodness from fresh fruits and vanilla, topped with sweet brown sugar.
If you’re looking for a classic diner, Route 19 Cafe in Waterloo is a must-stop! Its nostalgic, cozy atmosphere will bring you back to the good old days. Serving breakfast and brunch, they will surely have some of your flavorful favorites!
To name a few noteworthy dishes, taste the cafe’s heavenly pancakes piled high with toppings of your choice such as whipped cream, fresh fruit, and more! For all the skillet lovers, it’s one of Route 19’s most famous–they’re sizzling with flavor.
More of a grab-and-go breakfast eater? Nearby, in Milwaukee County, Grebe’s Bakery is a West Allis staple. Started in 1937, Grebe’s Bakery is not only going on 86 years of making baked goods but also four generations of business owners. Believe it or not, it all started with butterhorns! Today, among their other notorious flavors, taste their homemade crawlers and hot ham sandwiches.
Celebrate National Hot Breakfast Month this February by exploring four must-visit Wisconsin hot spots, where charming diners and beloved bakeries serve up delightful morning flavors to brighten your day.
