UW-Whitewater women’s soccer started conference play with an 0-2-1 record but have since won three straight WIAC games. Their latest victory was a 3-1 victory over UW-Stout on Saturday, Oct. 25.
The game started out quickly with a goal from senior forward Summer Curtis at the seven minute mark to give the Warhawks a 1-0 lead.
The scoring dried up for both teams and the next goal wouldn’t come until the 44 minute mark. Sophomore forward Jenna Laidlaw scored her first goal of the season on a penalty kick to give the Warhawks a 2-0 lead.
Curtis would score her second goal of the game at the 64 minute mark extending the Warhawks’ lead to 3-0. Curtis leads the Warhawks in goals scored this season with seven.
UW-Stout junior midfielder Emma Balsley would score the final goal of the game at the 82 minute mark to cut the Warhawks’ lead to 3-1.
While each team recorded three saves, Whitewater dominated the game in shots and shots on goal. They led Stout 15-7 on shots and 6-4 in shots on goal. The Warhawks were also the more disciplined team, committing seven less fouls than the Blue Devils.
With this victory UW-W is third in the WIAC, trailing just UW-River Falls and UW-La Crosse. The Warhawks conclude their regular season on November 1 as they head to UW-La Crosse to take on the 2025 regular season WIAC champions.
