With the holiday season right around the corner, everyone is wondering what to buy their family, friends and significant others as a gift. Before you jump into the first store you see and spend more cash than you intend, it’s important to take a few points into consideration
1. Do your research
No one likes to make a purchase and then discover that your purchase would have been cheaper at another place. If you have something specific in mind, browse through a catalog or online to make sure you are getting the best available price.
2. Make a list
Have a specific list for what you are buying for each person. When you walk into a store and see all the deals and desirable items, your mind tends to want to buy more. If you go shopping with a specific mindset of what you’re buying, you won’t fall prey to all the other deals.
3. Have a budget
Be sure to know what you should be paying for which items. Make sure to look at all of your options and not go overboard on one gift and then have minimal spending room for your other gifts. After all, we are “broke college students” and we need to be smart about all our purchases.
4. Don’t wait until the last minute
If you’re anything like me, you want to get your shopping done as soon as you can. Plan out when you are shopping and where you are going. No one wants to be shopping a day or two before the holiday. Make a plan and stick to it to make the most of your money and time.
5. Don’t spend too much on the wrapping or cards
Cards and wrapping paper these days are expensive. Save some money by making your own card, reusing gift bags, or making your own wrapping paper out of everyday items. Your recipients will appreciate the originality.
If you follow these five tips, you will save money and feel better about the gifts you are giving to your loved ones. Good luck and Happy Holidays!
