If you ever find yourself desiring a sweet treat, look no further.
Seniors Ali and Abbie Murphy and UW-Whitewater alumna Robyn Finster have created a small business called the Dessert Cup Delivery.
Dessert Cup Delivery is a dessert service that delivers desserts right to the door of any Whitewater resident on Monday nights.
“Originally, we were just going to do on campus deliveries,” Abbie said. “We decided to deliver to off-campus residents as well because of the number of people not living on campus.”
Dessert Cup Delivery is in its second semester of business. Planning began at the end of the spring 2011 semester, and the girls started their deliveries the second week of the 2011-2012 school year.
Dessert Cup Delivery originally started as a fundraising idea, but then it grew into a small business.
The businesses’ first customer was the Whitewater Innovation Center, where the trio catered many delicious desserts for the Innovation Center’s launchpad program. Their success with the Innovation Center has led the trio to provide desserts for employees at any business in Whitewater.
Dessert Cup Delivery currently has four featured flavors to fill their 8-ounce cups. These include the classic dirt cup, the signature sand cup, a cookies ‘n’ cream cup, and the fruit & yogurt parfait cup.
The trio, nicknamed the “dessert divas,” also plan to launch a puppy chow dessert very soon.
Depending on the season, Dessert Cup Delivery also creates seasonal promotions, such as their pumpkin trifle for Halloween.
Dessert Cup Delivery works out of a licensed kitchen in Janesville, which limits their delivery to only one night per week.
“If we see a demand for it and build our customer base, then we would like to introduce more on-demand delivery,” Abbie said.
Dessert Cup Delivery also hopes to work with student organizations on campus to help with fundraising. They are currently working with the PRSSA.
“We worked with PRSSA to do somewhat of a ‘glorified bake sale,’” Ali said. “We called the event ‘Flirt with Dirt.’”
Though the Murphy’s graduate at the end of the semester and Finster has already graduated, the Murphy’s said they hope to expand their business and find additional employees to keep it alive.
To order desserts, you can go to www.dessertcupdelivery.com. Orders must be placed by Saturday at midnight if you wish to receive your dessert cup the following Monday.
Customers may choose a single dessert cup for $3.50 or buy a month subscription of four desserts for $12.
To get more facts or place an order, you can also visit their Facebook and Twitter pages by searching Dessert Cup Delivery.
From a fundraiser to a small business, Ali said she thinks the business has a lot of potential.
“What we could do with our business is limitless,” Ali said. “We’re excited to see where it takes us.”
