The march began at 1:30pm today, March 7th, starting in downtown Whitewater and ending in the Hamilton Room at the University Center.
In the Hamilton Room there was a lot to be seen. There were posters representing many different groups and their struggle for individual rights including LGBT, Native American and many others which decorated the walls of the room. Along with the displays was the “Wall of Tolerance” which offers a chance to people to take a stand for the oppressed and to make it a life duty to support human rights and civil liberties. The tables were decorated with colorful paper featuring crayons and colored pencils posing questions like “what is freedom?” and “Describe Diversity.”
The same paper covered the floor in the center of the room, where prompts to color “What playing nice looked like.” lain. And soon after the commencement of the program many young children joined us for the event. The children colored the whole time, and were exposed to poetry written by members of our campus highlighting racial struggle, and to the UW-Whitewater Gospel choir.
