If you feel like you are starting to burn out at this point in the semester, trust me, you’re not the only one.
A good friend once said to me, “one by one and they’ll all be done,” and this saying is something I keep in mind whenever I have a lot on my plate. This phrase rings true, and it can be beneficial to remember when you can’t seem to find the light at the end of the tunnel.
Here are a few pointers that will help you to finish this semester strong and with good grades and your sanity intact:
1. PRIORITIZE. Figure out which assignments need the most attention and make a schedule of when and how long you should be working on your assignments every day.
2. MAKE A TO-DO LIST. Write down everything you need to do for the remainder of the semester, and be aware of what assignments are due when.
3. ELIMINATE DISTRACTIONS. If this means staying off Facebook for a week or skipping your favorite television show, then do it. You may have to make sacrifices, but it will pay off in the long run.
4. ASK FOR HELP IF YOU NEED IT. Visit a professor’s office hours or form a study group with some of your classmates. Getting help from others will help you reduce stress and understand your assignments better.
5. GET GOOD SLEEP. Never underestimate the power of a good night’s sleep. Give yourself at least seven hours a night, and be sure to eat a healthy breakfast. Steer away from eating junk food constantly so that you have more energy.
6. BREATE AND RELAX. Whether it’s getting a massage, meditating or just taking deep breathes, do something to get yourself relaxed. The less frantic you are, the more productive you’ll be able to be these next few weeks.
7. REWARD YOURSELF. Take small breaks throughout the day. Catch up on your television shows, take a short nap, or grab a meal with a friend. Be sure to do these sparingly, and know that you have to get back to the books eventually.
If you are able to balance out the tips above and keep a steady head, you will be saying goodbye to your spring semester and hello to your summer.
