Sophomore Katie Zwiefelhofer made school history Saturday, finishing in third place at the United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Singles Championship.
“I came into the tournament with very high expectations for myself,” Zwiefelhofer said. “I feel I performed up to the level needed in order to be successful.”

Zwiefelhofer lost 221-170 to Elise Bolton of the University of Nebraska in the semi-final matchup.
She said the national tournament brought together some of the best collegiate bowlers in the country and added the competition is very intense.
“Everyone is on their A-game here, so focusing on every shot and giving it your all is crucial,” Zwiefelhofer said.
Finishing third nationally, Zwiefelhofer came a long way to earn a berth in the USBC national tournament by finishing fourth in her USBC sectional.
She said it was the extra coaching from a longtime mentor that gave her a special edge over the competition.
“Ever since I was 10 years old, my father has been my coach and he’s taught me everything that I know,” Zwiefelhofer said. “Without my father, Steve, I would be no where near this successful,” Zwiefelhofer said.
The biggest question Zwiefelhofer is faced with this offseason is what improvements the team and herself could make to compete at a higher level next season.
“This year will be hard to top, but I would love to have another year just like this [individually],” Zwiefelhofer said. “If I had to change one thing, I would have our whole team out here so we could all share this experience together.”
The USBC tournament concluded the 2011-2012 season for the UW-Whitewater bowling team.
