UW-Whitewater student Benjamin Fuder was found dead today in Walworth County at the bottom of Whitewater Limestone Quarry after being reported missing yesterday to the Whitewater Police Department.
Fuder was last seen Saturday morning in the downtown Whitewater area around 12:30 a.m. The Walworth County Coroner identified the body and pronounced him dead at the scene around 7 a.m.
Fuder was a junior at UW-Whitewater working toward his bachelor’s degree in international studies. Friends and family have already shown their respect and sorrow of Fuder’s passing by writing on his Facebook wall.
This is the second UW-Whitewater student to be found dead in the Whitewater Limestone Quarry after going missing. Junior Mark Wegener was found dead on May 30, 2011 after being seen walking home from a party near Boone Court and Center Street, nearly a mile away from the quarry.
Wegener’s blood alcohol content was 0.106 and he died of multiple fractures after falling into the quarry.The 20 year old’s death was ruled an accident by investigators.
The Whitewater Police Department and the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office detectives are working together in the ongoing investigation of Fuder’s death.
