The Warhawk women’s tennis team preserved their undefeated season by posting wins in two dual matches in Wheaton, Ill., Saturday evening. The Hawks’ completed a perfect 9-0 sweep of UW-La Crosse in the opener and followed up in the second dual with an 8-1 victory over Wheaton.
Senior number one singles player Sydney Divelbiss and junior number two singles player Alexandra Bayliss won all four of their singles matches on the day, improving each of their records to 4-0 on the season.
That story continued with junior Jackie Vitale, senior Megan Kasten and senior Lauren Aguilar as they also all won both dual matches at numbers three, four, and five singles, respectively.
“We played two tough schools and our entire team pulled through,” Aguilar said. “Our conditioning has been the hardest it’s ever been and has prepared us better for competition.”
On the doubles side, the number one team of Divelbiss and Bayliss won both of their matches, improving their record to 4-0 on the season.
The number two team of Aguilar and senior Kelly Foster helped round out the undefeated day of doubles play with an 8-5 win over Lauren Schlabach and Erika Nelson of Wheaton.
“Lauren and I play well together and compliment each others games well in doubles. I thought the team did great considering this week’s practice were very strategic,” said Foster.
’Hawks’ Assistant Coach Dan Bickett was impressed with the team’s performance in the two dual matches.
“They were two very good wins. La Crosse is a good team with a lot of solid returners and they got some good freshman as well,” Bickett said.
The ’Hawks look to continue their success this weekend when they travel to St. Peter, Minn., for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships.
