The Warhawk women’s soccer team completed an undefeated week defeating Augustana, 3-1, on the road Wednesday and conference foe UW-Lacrosse, 3-2, at home Saturday.
Both games featured senior Chrissy Tooren scoring the go-ahead goal. She put UW-Whitewater ahead in the 69th minute of Wednesday’s game. Saturday, she knocked in the game-winning goal in the 56th minute.
Coach Ryan Quamme said Tooren played well against La Crosse. Tooren has either scored or provided the assist in all six of the team’s goals in the last two games.
After the team’s 1-3 start, they’ve bounced back with a four game win streak. Quamme attributes the team’s turn around to the dedication of the players.
“The girls have done everything we’ve asked,” Quamme said.
Quamme also stressed how much the depth of the roster has helped the team succeed. He said there were a few freshmen who were able to come in and give the team big minutes in their game against La Crosse.
The players also seem to be optimistic about the direction of the team.
“Our team is really starting to mesh together and figure out our roles both on and off the field,” junior Jessica Allamang said. “We seem to be heading in a positive direction.”
The ’Hawks have two games this week. The first is against Carroll College at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the other against conference rival UW-Stout on Friday at 6 p.m.
Both games will be held at home, where the ’Hawks have yet to lose a game. They have outscored their opponents, 6-2, in three home contests this season.
Quamme said Carroll is a tough team and his team can’t take any game lightly.
The ’Hawks’ win against Augustana Wednesday gave the team a confidence boost, according to Quamme, which carried over to the team’s game against La Crosse.
