Royal Purple is a weekly campus and community newspaper at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. It provides information for students, faculty, staff and citizens about news and entertainment, as well as serving as an open forum for opinions. Royal Purple is supported by advertising from area businesses, campus programs and community organizations. The printed and online newspaper creates a laboratory learning experience for students to establish a permanent record of contemporary events throughout the campus and city. Royal Purple has editorial and advertising and multimedia student staff. It is guided by a faculty adviser with the support of an administrative assistant through the Department of Communication in the College of Arts & Communication.
Royal Purple will strive to present the news in an objective manner. The writers will be encouraged to research the views, policies or actions that are being reported. Opinions will belong only to sources and will be clearly attributed. Royal Purple will use fairness, impartiality, accuracy, truthfulness and responsibility in presenting ideas to its readers without editorializing. The staff retains the right to choose content and to determine the priority of stories for its readers. No other individuals have the right to review or censor the content of the Royal Purple prior to publication.
Royal Purple is published every Monday in print and online during the academic school year. A circulation of 5,000 newspapers are delivered to 75 news stands in high-traffic locations across the university and in the city of Whitewater, except in cases of severe weather or security alerts.
