A walk in non-traditional shoes

I found it quite ironic that I received a small taste of what non-traditional life is really like just a few days before Non-traditional Student Recognition Week, which runs from Nov. 7 to Nov. 13. Let me tell you, it was much more difficult than I imagined. Last week, I was asked by my aunt and uncle to watch their three children from Monday to Thursday while they went on vacation. Their family lives in Milton, so I thought to myself, “How hard could it be?” So I agreed to watch my cousins for a week.

TOMS Campus Club raises awareness through shoe donation

“I wanted to spread the idea that TOMS are more than just cool shoes, it’s a movement to make the world a better place.” These are the aspirations of Erin Edmunds, a junior at UW-Whitewater, who started the TOMS Campus Club this year to promote the TOMS’ “One for One” movement. “TOMS’ ‘One for One’ movement’ matches every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of shoes for a child in need,” Edmunds said.

This year’s homecoming resulted in 53 different organizations participating in the different festivities revolving around the theme “Lights, Camera, Homecoming.” Each year the possible themes are brainstormed by the homecoming committee and then brought to the organizations for voting. The past homecoming themes have been “Game On,” “90s,” “Lived ‘Em, Loved ‘Em, Never Left ‘Em,” and “This is How We Roll.”

House hunting can be an exciting but overwhelming process. You’re just starting to realize the extent of your independence when you start worrying about reading over contracts and how you’re going to pay the bills. If you don’t know any upperclassmen to ask for advice about searching for a house or apartment, hopefully my experience and advice will give you some insight in the house hunting process.

Alcohol abatement project leads to large-scale party busts

An alcohol abatement project used by the Whitewater Police Department to deter binge drinking and underage consumption helped bust the party on Oct. 20 at 404 W. Center St. The three hosts were charged with multiple counts of selling alcohol without a license and furnishing alcohol to an underages.

UW System asks for a more equitable approach to lapse

The UW System is asking for a more fair and proportionate amount of the budget lapse in comparison with other state agencies. System sent a memo to the Department of Administration last Wednesday detailing items they think should be deleted from the equation.
