Royal Purple Staff Goodbyes: Chris Kuhagen

May 11, 2011
All good things must come to an end. This is the reality I face as my time at the Royal Purple has come to a close. It’s tough to put this chapter of my life behind me, because working at this publication has meant so much to me. After all, when you’ve been at one place for so long, saying goodbye is the hardest thing to do.

Coppage stands tallest

May 11, 2011
It’s Game Day and Levell Coppage’s eyes are closed. He’s lying down and visualizing what will occur on the football field that day. He sees himself making hard cuts and breaking loose from defenders trying to take him down. He sees himself bursting through a gaping hole into the open field for a touchdown. “I’m a visual-type player,” Coppage said. “I like to picture things before I go out and do it.”

It’s all about the future. That was the general theme of Gov. Scott Walker’s two-year $59.2 billion budget proposal he gave Tuesday inside the Capitol State Assembly in Madison. Walker addressed a slew of issues that ranged from UW Madison splitting off from the UW System and local job cuts.

February 16, 2011
Phil Negri can’t believe where the time has gone, but still doesn’t like thinking about the finish line. “I’ve tried really hard not to,” Negri said. “[I’m] just trying to stay focused and not really worry about the end.” But the end of his basketball career is quickly approaching for the senior point guard.

Whitewater loses an icon: Kachel donated millions of dollars to the athletic department over the years

February 9, 2011
To some, David Kachel was known for the millions of dollars he donated to the UW-Whitewater Athletic Department for more than half a century. But to those who were closest to him, it went much deeper. It went beyond money, facilities and sports. Kachel died last Thursday at the age of 83.

Carollo’s bunch turn skeptics into believers

February 5, 2011
There were plenty of question marks regarding the women's basketball team entering the 2010-2011 season. After all, they lost many seniors from last year's WIAC title squad and have three freshman in the starting lineup. A problem? Not for head coach Keri Carollo's team, which is actually in better shape in the conference standings and rankings than it was at this time last year.

A trip bound to be super

February 2, 2011
Going to a Super Bowl was never one of Eric Hanson’s lifelong dreams. It wasn’t even something he thought would ever occur – especially this year. Nonetheless, Hanson, a UW-Whitewater senior, will watch the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers battle for the Vince Lombardi trophy at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the site Super Bowl XLV.
